Pete, Willie Makeit II, Dave and the USA-Turk Machine in the Khyber Pass of Pakistan in 1973. It was printed in a Pakistani paper that the Kunst brothers were the first non-Asians to walk "to and through" the famous pass. Permission to walk the historic route was given because a Pakistani Tribal Prince who was a good friend of the American Consul in Peshawar, Pakistan agreed to walk with the brothers. Dave said it was the most exciting walk of the world, global, Earthwalk.

The Pakistani Tribal Prince walking with Willie Makeit II and Pete, as they pass Shagai Fort the home of the Khyber Rifle's. The Prince walked with the brothers from the Afghanistan border up the Khyber Pass to Landi Kotal where they spent the night. Landi Kotal is the highest point on the Khyber Pass. In the morning they walked down the Khyber Pass to Jamurd the official end of the Khyber Pass.

Pete, Willie Makeit II, Dave and USA Turk Machine in front of the Pakistan National Assembly building in Islamabad. The Capital city was about ten years old at the time the Kunst brothers arrived in 1973. The brothers stayed with American Embassy employees for about a month. During that time they tried to get permission to walk across China. After days of waiting they were invited to the Chinese Embassy where they were officially denied permission to walk across China.

In 1940 the Muslim League held its historic 34th annual session and demanded a separate homeland for Muslims. Differences between Hindus and the Muslims were so bad that only two separate and distinct nations would work.

There are symbols associated with other places of worship as an example of the spirit of tolerance and acceptance of the Sikh religion. Arriving in New Delhi, India the Kunst brothers and their mule powered supply wagon stopped in front of an Indian government building. The brothers always informed local authorities that they had arrived in their area. It was good advice from American Embassy and American Consulate officials.

The most difficult walking conditions Dave, Pete and Willie Makeit II experienced while walking around the world were along the Grand Trunk Road in North Eastern India during the Monsoon season. The truck traffic was unbelievable so the brothers had to walk in the mud alongside the main pavement. The Grand Trunk Road runs through many of India's most historic places, including Delhi, Agra, and Varanasi, the holiest city of Hinduism, and it ends just beyond Calcutta.

Pete took this picture of Dave, Willie Makeit II and the USA Turk Machine as they were waiting to cross the Howrah Bridge in Calcutta, India. The famous bridge spans the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. It had a daily traffic flow of approximately 150,000 vehicles and masses of pedestrians. It is one of the longest bridges of its type in the world. The walk across Europe and Asia was completed. Australia was next.

Arriving in Perth, Western Australia on November 3, 1973 the brothers had to wait for the USA-Turk Machine to arrive at Fremantle. Ron Moorland a friendly Australian helped the brothers pull the wagon to the Perth Police stables. A mule arrived from Northern Australia and was presented to the Kunst brothers by the Australian Tourist Commission. Will Willie Makeit II didn't make it, she died of a heart attack near Port Augusta, South Australia.

March 7, 1974 Dave, Pete, Will Willie Makeit II and the USA Turk Machine were about to enter Ceduna, Australia after walking the 252 miles of dirt road across the Nullabor Plain in the State of South Australia. Ceduna is a small town in the West Coastal region of South Australia. Pete left the walk at Ceduna because of knee and foot problems. He returned home to his family in Costa Mesa, California. Dave continued the world walk with Will Willie Makeit II. Pete was missed.

Will Willie Makeit II died of a heart attack 15 miles outside of Port Augusta, South Australia. Disc jockeys from radio station 5 AU used a mobil radio station to tow the USA Turk Machine while Dave walked alongside. Dave called Jenni Samuel an Australian School teacher he met in Perth, Australia. Jenni had expressed interest in the walk so Dave asked her if she would tow the wagon with her car the rest of the way across her country. She agreed. Jenni Samuel, Dave, Will She Makeit and the USA-Turk Machine paused for a picture on their way to the finish of the Australian leg of the first walk around the earth. During the six week, thousand mile trek to the Pacific, Jenni and Dave fell in love. Driving the car at a speed that Dave could walk burned out two clutches. June 15, 1974, Jenni Samuel the Australian school teacher and Dave arrived in Sydney, Australia. Dave touched the Pacific having completed another leg of the walk around the world. During their time together from Port Augusta to Sydney Jenni and Dave fell in love and decided to get together when the walk was finished. The couple said good-bye but after the walk Dave returned to Australia to get Jenni. Two years later the couple was married in the USA and live in California.

July 28, 1974 at Newport Pier in Newport Beach, California Dave and Pete are presented with an American mule they named Willie Will Makeit II. After touching the Pacific Ocean the last leg of the walk was in motion. Pete decided not to walk to Waseca, Minnesota but he would be there for the finish. Thanks to a Colorado Highway Patrolman and a letter from Minnesota Senator Hubert H. Humphrey Dave was given special permission to walk through the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado. According to the tunnel manager it was the first time that a non worker was given permission to traverse the 1.7 mile structure. Dave Kunst paused as he crossed into Minnesota from Iowa along Highway 169. He was just ninety miles from finishing the First Verified Walk Around the Earth in Waseca, Minnesota on Saturday October 5, 1974.

October 5, 1974 Dave completed the First Verified Walk Around the World in front of the State Theatre in Waseca, Minnesota. Dave Kunst became the first person to have circled the land mass of the earth with the exception of the oceans on foot. He went through 22 pairs of shoes on his walk.
