The Capital city was about ten years old at the time the Kunst brothers arrived in 1973. The brothers stayed with American Embassy employees for about a month. During that time they tried to get permission to walk across China. After days of waiting they were invited to the Chinese Embassy where they were officially denied permission to walk across China.
