Dave's brother Pete joined the world walk after John was killed. The Kunst brothers met with Hubert H. Humphrey before returning to Kabul, Afghanistan. The former Vice President then a Minnesota US Senator gave the brothers an official letter of recommendation. Humphrey said he would contact all American Embassies and consulates of the countries still to be walked and ask them to do what was possible to help the brothers. March 26th. 1973 the circumambulation of the earth was restarted at the exact site in Afghanistan where John Kunst had been killed. It had been about five months since the Bandit attack and Dave was fully recuperated from the gunshot that almost killed him. The American Embassy provided transportation for Dave, Pete, Willie Makeit II and the USA-Turk Machine. Eight Afghan policemen with two motor cycles and two jeeps provided protection for the Kunst brothers until they reached the Pakistan bord ... more

Pete, Willie Makeit II, Dave and the USA-Turk Machine in the Khyber Pass of Pakistan in 1973. It was printed in a Pakistani paper that the Kunst brothers were the first non-Asians to walk "to and through" the famous pass. Permission to walk the historic route was given because a Pakistani Tribal Prince who was a good friend of the American Consul in Peshawar, Pakistan agreed to walk with the brothers. Dave said it was the most exciting walk of the world, global, Earthwalk.

The Pakistani Tribal Prince walking with Willie Makeit II and Pete, as they pass Shagai Fort the home of the Khyber Rifle's. The Prince walked with the brothers from the Afghanistan border up the Khyber Pass to Landi Kotal where they spent the night. Landi Kotal is the highest point on the Khyber Pass. In the morning they walked down the Khyber Pass to Jamurd the official end of the Khyber Pass.

Pete, Willie Makeit II, Dave and USA Turk Machine in front of the Pakistan National Assembly building in Islamabad. The Capital city was about ten years old at the time the Kunst brothers arrived in 1973. The brothers stayed with American Embassy employees for about a month. During that time they tried to get permission to walk across China. After days of waiting they were invited to the Chinese Embassy where they were officially denied permission to walk across China.
