The Kunst brothers walked out of Spain and entered France at Cerbere on March 30, 1971. Willie Makeit II nourished herself on the grass that covered the French city park chosen by Dave and John as a campsite for the night. The people of Portugal and Spain had been wonderful but France would prove that the French tend to be somewhat haughty. France was the start of the brothers' chant. Nobody knows and nobody cares. April 13, 1971 Dave, John and Willie Makeit II walked through the Arch of Triumph in Montpellier, France. The hospitable mayors of Portugal and Spain were missed. The American Consul General in Marseille, France helped. He had the consulate contact officials and the media including the International Herald Tribune. They got their picture in the Herald Tribune in April 27, 1971.

A few minutes after John and Dave and their mule, Willie Makeit II walked through the Royal Palace gates Princess Grace walked out on the balcony that overlooked the courtyard. Then slowly she started down the staircase to greet the brothers. About half way down she stopped, smiled and said, "I've met a lot of people but never two guys with a mule, will she kick" then she laughed.
