The Kunst brothers walked out of Spain and entered France at Cerbere on March 30, 1971. Willie Makeit II nourished herself on the grass that covered the French city park chosen by Dave and John as a campsite for the night. The people of Portugal and Spain had been wonderful but France would prove that the French tend to be somewhat haughty. France was the start of the brothers' chant. Nobody knows and nobody cares. Their walk from the border to Marseille was aggravated by arrogant officials who were not interested in helping two Americans with a mule.
