Marguerite Herbst Ivory Lace Dress. Material: textile, pearl, metal. (a) Dress. Size: 26" W. x 49 1/2" L. (dress size 14). Description: ivory cotton and linen lace six-gore skirt, short puff sleeves, round neckline, net insert between sleeves and waist and over shoulders; a 7" placket left waist seam with four sets of snaps for closure; a 2" placket back neckline closes with two 3/8" shank style pearl buttons (one missing); a snap assembly and crocheted tie over each shoulder holds undergarment straps firm. (b) Belt. Size: 1 1/2" W. x 34 1/2" L. Description: ivory net lined with ivory linen fastens with a rectangular slide.
Worn by Marguerite Herbst in late 1930s. Bierman Collection: Bernie Bierman was a football coach at the University of Minnesota for the Golden Gophers. Bernie Bierman was the grandson of a Waseca County pioneer, Heinrich F. Bierman. In 1855, Heinrich made a claim in sections 13, in Wilton and 18 in Otisco where he lived until December 22, 1882, when he was accidentally killed by a fall from a wagon. His wife and five children lived in Waseca after his death. Luella and Marguerite Herbst are the granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Bierman, and the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Herbst. Mrs. Herbst was Elizabeth Bierman. They also donated items from Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Perrin. Mrs. Perrin was Emma Bierman.
