Civil War Andersonville Prison Bible. (a) Material: paper. Size: 2 7/8" x 4 5/8" x 3/4". Description: brown hardcover book of the New Testament carried by Union soldier, John Snider during the Civil War and was with him while he was a prisoner of war at the Andersonville Prison in Georgia. (b) The provenance note included was written by Cecile Miller. Snider's sister Julia was married to Rinehart Miller. Handwritten inside front cover: True Love, John Snider, Nettie Miller; note attached inside: "R. Miller, Civil War (Union), Army uniform, Mrs. E. A. Everett"
The Bible was sent home from Andersonville prison by Rinehardt Miller, Civil War Veteran. Belonged to John Snider who died in the prison and asked that the Bible be sent to his sister, Julia S. Miller.
