Herter's Records
Number of sheets: 1 Preparation page for Herter's Inc. Cookbook III page 260; black and white photo of three Herter children eating sugar cane. Jacques (Jack) P. Herter, Christian (Chris) Dupont and Lance Dupont Herter. Caption: "They only pretend to eat pieces of sugarcane like this in the advertisements. Sugarcane contains small pickers like cactus and if you touch it, your skin becomes full of them. Sugarcane is a jointed grass. Sucking on pieces of sugarcane gives you no taste at all. Sugarcane fields are burned before they harvest them to burn off the pickers and dry leaves and to kill off the rats and cockroaches that infest the fields. No sugar is refined in Hawaii. It is sent to the mainland for refining."
