Norwegian Pants. Material: textile, metal. Size: 18" x 36". Description: dark blue heavy cotton, white pinstriped long pants; red triangular inserts at lower leg, studded with 3 snap rivets; red elasticized waistband; front fly closure with four brass buttons; two front pockets with red cuffs; two back hip pockets with red cuffs.
Worn by Elias Selvik in Norway. Elias Selvik was born in Selvik, Norway in 1886 and immigrated to America from Bergen in 1908 at the age of 22 by way of steam ship that brought him to Ellis Island, New York. From there he made his way to Bode, Iowa. While living there he met and married Hilda Kinseth, a Bode, Iowa native, in 1916. They had two sons, Jerome and Richard. Jerome married Luella Sutter and farmed north of Waseca where they raised five children: Ron, Bruce, Jacquie who reside in Waseca County and two other daughters who made their homes in Farmington and Park Rapids.
