John and Minnie had six daughters, Ida, Louise, Martha, Clara, Minnie and Lilly; they also had three sons, Henry, John Jr., and William. All of the daughters married railroad men: Ida and Emil Long, Minnie and James Dahl, Louise and Del Curry; Clara and Herman Tews; Martha and Robert Mackey.
Grandfather John Gutfleisch was a harness maker and his brother Charles Gutfleisch was a tailor in Janesville.
Sons John and Henry Gutfleisch were partners in the painting and paper hanging business, William worked on the railroad for a time but later was an assistant register of deeds.
