Thomas Devine II and Susan Lee Devine. (a) Portrait. Material: paper. Size: 14" x 19 1/2". Description: oval shaped colored crayon enhanced portrait of Thomas Devine (groom), a young man with a dark mustache and short center-parted hair; he is wearing a three-piece dark suit with a long morning coat, white shirt and polka dotted tie; and Susan Lee (bride), a young woman with her hair worn in a bun at the top of her head; she is wearing a floor length two piece gown that features a draped skirt, a dark floral panel insert and small pleats that encircle the hemline; her tightly fitted waist jacket is high necked and long-sleeved with a center bodice closure secured with many tiny buttons; the skirt's floral patterned accent is repeated in the neckline, wide lapels and cuffs; she wears a loosely fitted ring on her right index finger and a plain medal bracelet at her wrist.
Notes from the donor: Thomas Devine II was born in May of 1858, the son of Thomas Devine and Mary Jane Ward Devine. Thomas was a farmer in Iosco Township and died in 1940 at the age of 82. His wife, Mary Jane preceded him in death at age 43 in 1910. Both Thomas II and Mary Jane are buried at St. Jarlath's Cemetery in Iosco Township.
