Snow Storm 1935-1936. Material: paper. Description: black and white photograph of a man and woman standing on a huge snow pile; car on road in front of snow mound. Identified as Mabel Anderson and John Sommers. The car is a 1929 Chevy and belonged to Mabel Anderson. Photograph labeled: "Old Highway 13."
Note from donor: "The 1929 Chevy car owned by Mabel Anderson was driven by Mabel to the west coast with Mary (Bishman) Krassin (Waseca Herald, July 30, 1931, page 3, column 3) and with a cousin and two friends in 1935 (Waseca newspaper, August or September.). This photograph is labeled 'Old Highway 13' so it is likely west of the current Hwy 13 and near District 3 school. Mabel and Margaret Matson taught at District 3 school. They stayed at the Schmidke farm during the school week. The Schmidke farm was NE of the school. Mabel and Margaret skied across the fields to the school. Margaret used to laugh about it – she had a damaged hip (broken when she was a child, maybe sledding) and she had some trouble getting over the fences. Margaret was later county school superintendent."
