Rural Freedom Township School District #56. Material: paper. Size: 4" x 5". Description: black and white photograph of school District 56; located in Waseca County, Freedom Township, Section 7 and/or Section 9, Rollins School. The Rollins School (Waseca County Rural School District 56) was located in Waseca County, Minnesota, Freedom Township, Section 7. Lynn Rollins, Son of Henry Rollins, is one of the students in this photograph.
The 1879 Landowners Record shows District No. 56 school building in the SE corner of his farm in Freedom Township, Section 7. At some point after the school closed the building was moved to just south of the house on the Lynn or Willard Rollins building site. Willard's father, Lynn Rollins had also lived at this site before Willard. Who lived there at the time the building was moved is unsure. It was then used for farm/barn use until it was torn down in approximately 1969. Michael Rollins was born in 1959 to Willard and Eva Rollins, at their building site just a short distance north of the former school location. The former Henry Rollins building site is still farther north, all on this same farm (owned by Gregg Rollins today). Michael remembers exploring in the old school building/barn, when he was a boy. He also remembers that when he was about ten years old the building was torn down, which would make it approximately 1969. Rural schools, country schools, schoolhouses, Freedom schools, Rollins school.
