John A. Anderson of Waseca, Minnesota was born in Carver County, Minnesota December 28, 1870. His father, Rev. Svante Anderson was a pioneer preacher and his mother was Annie Erickson, died in 1908. John A. Anderson attended Gustavus Adolphus College. He later started a clothing store at Worthington, Minnesota for seven years, then sold it and moved to Madelia where he rand a hardware and farm machinery business for four and a half years. He then moved to Minneapolis and worked as a representative for Deer & Weber Co. In 1905, he exchanged some real estate for a men's clothing store in Waseca where he lived for the next several years. He was married to Ella Broberg and they had one daughter Winnefred. His business partner was probably his brother in law, Charles F. Peterson (Petterson). Fraternally Mr. Anderson was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Odd Fellows and the Modern Woodmen of America. He was also a member of the Commercial Club in Waseca.
