Clark aka as Walter S. Clarke, 10th Battery, F. A. for having completed the Course of Instruction for Horseshoers, and is declared a competent Army Horseshoer; personally signed by W. C. Short, Captain, 13th Cavalry, George Camerson, Captain, 4th Cavalry, Alexander Plummer, Veterinarian, 4th Cavalry Instructor and the Colonel, 9th Cavalry, Commandant.
Walter S. Clarke served with the 7th Battalion Field Artillery at Fort Snelling and was promoted to a Corporal rank in 1905. He was married to Grace Broemer and resided in Janesville Township of Waseca County where he farmed and raised their family. Their daughter, Dorothy Clarke, married Archie Carl Lortis, father of donor, Archie Buzz Lortis.
