Clarke is promoted to the rank of Corporal; signed at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on April 1, 1905 by Nathan Shelton, Commanding Officer of the Artillery Corps and S. E. Allen, Major Artillery Corps.

Walter S. Clarke served with the 7th Battalion Field Artillery at Fort Snelling and was promoted to a Corporal rank in 1905. He was married to Grace Broemer and resided in Janesville Township of Waseca County where he farmed and raised their family. Their daughter, Dorothy Clarke, married Archie Carl Lortis, father of donor, Archie Buzz Lortis.
