Army Uniform Jacket of Walter Clarke. Material: textile, metal. Size: 17" x 30". Description: black wool military jacket with a quilted light brown cotton lining; narrow red stand up collar, shoulder epaulets fasted with a brass eagle emblazoned button; long sleeves with two red chevrons on each upper section, vertical red cuff trim with three brass buttons; front closure with nine brass buttons; reverse lower vertical vent edged with red trim and four brass buttons; uniform of the Minnesota Army 7th Battalion Field Artillery stationed at Fort Snelling near Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Walter S. Clarke served with the 7th Battalion Field Artillery at Fort Snelling and was promoted to a Corporal rank in 1905. He was married to Grace Broemer and resided in Janesville Township of Waseca County where he farmed and raised their family. Their daughter, Dorothy Clarke, married Archie Carl Lortis, father of donor, Archie Buzz Lortis.
