Lawrence and Roy Yess served in the U. S. Marines of the Second Battalion's 28th Regiment, 5th Division and fought in the Battle Iwo Jima, February 1945, an island in the Pacific which was the site of one of the bloodiest and most famous battles of World War II against Japan.
