Palmer Blacksmith Shop and Palmer Blacksmith Garage. Material: paper. Description: color photograph of the Palmer Blacksmith Building; photograph taken in the 1950s at its new location on the Scott Jones farm, being used as a garage.
Ed Peterson was instrumental in not only building the store but also building the Blacksmiths shop. A blacksmith shop and a garage were built on the same lots as the store, lots (1 & 2) in Block four (4) in Palmer. Information shows that the blacksmiths shop was operating in April 1919. Information also shows that materials were delivered between June 14th 1921 and August 6th 1921 from the Botsford lumber Co. out of Waseca, MN for improvements to the property. Ed Peterson ran the shop. I believe that the blacksmith shop did not operate very long because on January 30th 1923 Ed Peterson passed away and I have no evidence that anyone took over the business. I do know that at some point the blacksmiths shop building was moved to the Scott Jones farm which is about one and one quarter miles North of Palmer where it was used for a garage. According to Scott, the building stood until around 2010 when it was torn down and replaced with a new garage. Scott was able to provide a few photos of the Blacksmith shop from earlier days. Information provided by Robert Hagen.
