Pontoppidan Lutheran Church Centennial Celebration. Material: paper. Size: 8" W. x 20" L. Description: black and white panoramic photo of approximately 300 men, women and children in attendance at the celebration of the Lemond Pontoppidan Lutheran Church 100th anniversary; it was founded by mostly Norwegian and Danish immigrants in the 1860s; those in attendance are posed in rows in front of the church facing north, a modern brick ell-shaped building with a tall bell tower; the original wooden church burned in 1961 and was rebuilt on the same site with this structure. The church sign in front indicates that its pastor is John Soli.
Pontoppidan Lutheran Church is located in Lemond Township of Steele County approximately 1/2 mile east of the Waseca-Steele County line. The donor's grandparents, L.G. and Pauline Pedersdatter Haug who lived in Otisco Township of Waseca County were early members and are also buried in the surrounding cemetery.
