Edward Smith and Bertha Gerdes Wedding Portrait. Photo postcard from Ed Smith, 1910, mailed from Wilmot, South Dakota. Christmas greetings and congratulations to JP and Anna Sommers on the birth of their daughter. Alice was born December 10, 1910. Ed addresses JP and Anna as "cousin"; Bertha and Anna are the cousins, both Menke family descendants.

Bertha Gerdes (1886-1961), first cousin of Anna (Buker) Sommers. Anna and Bertha's mothers were sisters - Mina (Menke) Gerdes and Caroline (Menke) Buker. The Gerdes family had also moved to Waseca County from Clayton Co. Iowa and moved to South Dakota ca 1890s.
