The second leg of the Earth-Walk started on December 21, 1970 on the shores of the Atlantic at Cabo da Roca with Willie Makeit II a mule the brothers received from the the Portuguese Tourist Bureau. John took a picture of Dave and Willie Makeit II when they walked through Lisbon, Portugal. Language was an immediate problem for the Kunst brothers and that problem would continue across Europe and Asia. It wasn't until they reached Australia that language was no longer a concern for the brothers. Traffic was always a danger walking on roads around the world.
