New Richland School Third and Fourth graders. 5 3/4" x 3 1/2" black and white photo from the New Richland Star December 14, 1967 newspaper - captioned: "These third and fourth grade boys and girls are pictured as they stood on the school steps in 1932. Quite a few of them objected to the date in the cutlines of this picture in last week's Star. Seems they didn't care about being 10 years older than they actually are. They are from left to right: back row: Marie Christianson, Kathleen Farrell, Dorothy Dyer, Dale Smith, Dale Zwiener, George Schembers, Betty Lou Hanson, Gervae Brossard, Elsie Roseth and Valoise Johnston; second row: Miss Mabel Nyhus (does anyone know how to spell her name correctly?), teacher, Shirley Dodge, Dorothy Querna, Mary Bell, Jean Greenwood, Harriet Shurson, Wendell Liane, Verna Mae Smith, Ruby Hanson, Irene Weydert; third row: Geraldine Thompson, Ted Doyle, Evelyn Roseth, Melvin Baker, Dorothy Tenneson, Harriet Querna, Marjorie Shurson, Jean Nock, Alvina Abraham, Elsie Spletstoeser; front row: Lamoyne Hanson, Chester Hedberg, Austin Hage, Keith Peterson, Calvin Hagen, William Bell. A number of people called the Star to identify those in the photo. Among them were Mrs. Ernest (Betty Lou Hanson) Junkers, Alvina Abraham, Mrs. Leo (Marjorie Shurson) Christenson, Wendell Liane and Dale Smith, all pictured above. Interesting item the fact that Dale Smith was the only one who remembered the teacher's first name and he remarked that he would never forget her - she was a flaming redhead, according to Dale and evidently kept him in line."
