Young Crump and Benjamin Franklin Crump of Janesville, Minnesota; she married Samuel Griffith Montgomery in Janesville); the man leaning on the car is Samuel Griffith Montgomery; other suggested identities based on family photos: Samuel D. Crump, at the wheel of the car (Samuel Crump born December 5, 1856 the son of Alantha P. Crump and Benjamin F. Crump in Adams County, Wisconsin and was the probate judge of Janesville around 1882 - 1886); sitting next to the driver: Elsie Crump, the adopted daughter of Samuel D. Crump and his wife, Nellie Cox Crump; woman standing next to the car may be Nellie Cox Crump, the wife of Samuel D. Crump. Images were donated by the descendant of Marquis Lafayette Devereaux, Civil War veteran who was born in Busti, Chautauqua County, New York on February 13, ca. 1831 to Enoch Devereaux and Abigail Ellis Devereaux; moved to Wisconsin in 1851, then 1856 to 1861 lived in Concord, Minnesota, Dodge County. He enlisted in Company C, 2nd Minnesota Volunteers; ca. 1864 (according to Civil War Pension papers) he was boarding at the house of Mrs. Louisa Cummins; on March 11, 1865 he married Harriet Mariah Cummins, the daughter of John and Louisa Cummins, Waseca County. Marquis and Harriet had the following children: (1) Clara Louise Devereaux born 1868, died 1884. (2) Maurice Alvin Devereaux born 1870, died 1928. (3) Jennie Calista Devereaux born 1872, died 1944. (4) Amy Gladys Devereaux born 1874, died 1945. (5) Nellie Myrtle Devereaux born 1876, died 1919. (6) Harriet Alberta Devereaux born 1881, died 1881. Marquis L. Devereaux died Feb. 25, 1883, and buried in the Janesville Cemetery. Ruth Sarah Crump Devereaux is the great-grandmother of the donor.
