Methodist Church Commemorative Plate. Material: ceramic. Size: 10 1/2" diameter. Description: white china plate, sepia graphics and print, gold rim; black print on reverse 1 1/2" W. white raised relief border of daisies around plate edge; sepia graphics of the first and the current Evangelical Methodist Churches in center of plate, sepia caption below graphics: "Evangelical United Methodist Church, Waseca, Minnesota, 125th Anniversary"; black print on reverse details church history: "The church was begun in the fall of 1862 at Wilton when Rev. E.H. Bauman from the New Ulm Mission visited and preached. A church was built in Waseca in 1875. Pastors of the Waseca Circuit preached at Meriden, Iosco, and Blooming Grove. Iosco's church was built in 1880 and Meriden's in 1882. All of these churches eventually merged to become Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1960 the present church building was dedicated. In 1968 we merged with the Methodist Church to become Evangelical United Methodist Church". Maker's mark: "World Wide Art Studios, Covington, Tenn. 38019".
Donated by Ethel Fell (Mrs. Fred Priebe, 1899-2003) who attended the 1880 Iosco church with her family, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Fell; Ethel Fell married Fred Priebe in 1925 and attended Salem Evangelical Church, Waseca during their lifetime together. Iosco, Meriden and Wilton Churches closed and joined the Waseca church. Later, the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist churches merged. The Fell children donated a white lighted cross imprinted "Jesus Saves" in memory of their parents. In 1950, the cross was installed above the front entrance of the Evangelical Church located at the corner of 3rd Ave. and 3rd St. NE in Waseca. The cross can be seen on the 1902 church depicted on the commemorative plate.
