George Dunn Stowe. 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" black and white photograph of George Dunn Stowe, "born at Whitewater, Wis., July 24, 1876. His parents came from the British Isles, his father being a butter and cheese factory operator. He attended rural schools in Wisconsin until 12 years old, when he enrolled in the Whitewater State Normal School. In 1894 an injury necessitated his withdrawal from school and for the next 14 years he lived with his parents on a farm. As his health improved he resumed his studies under guidance of Dr. G. H. Trevor, a cousin, pastor of Methodist Church in Whitewater. In 1904 he was ordained a local preacher and supplied the rural churches of the community. In 1908 he came to Waseca, and was united in marriage to Nellie Dye. After serving various charges he located in Waseca in 1914 because of the death of his father-in-law, James B. Dye. His first wife passed away July 10, 1943. He married Mrs. Ruth H. Pulver, March 19, 1949. Mr. Stowe is a member of Tuscan Lodge #77, serving as master in 1927; a member of Royal Arch Masons, a member of Waseca Chapter #26, serving as high priest in 1919, is present secretary of that chapter which place he has occupied since 1920; a member of Knights Templar in Mankato Commandery; a member of Osman Temple in St. Paul; served 3 years as Grand Chaplain of the State Grand Chapter. He served two terms on the local Board of Education. He is a member of the Methodist Church. He is an outstanding Christian gentleman, a man I have deep respect and admiration for. 1-25-55"
During Herman Peterson's work at the Waseca County Historical Society, he collected portraits and biographies of many friends and Waseca area businessmen and professionals.
