Speaker of the House Searle's Gavel. (a) block. Size: 6 5/8" W. x 12 1/2" L. x 2" deep. Description: brown stained and varnished walnut rectangle with routed edges and green felt bottom, brass plate on block face: "Hon. Rodney N. Searle, Speaker of the House,, 1979". (b) Gavel. Material: wood. Size: 4 1/2" W. x 12" L. x 2 1/2 " D. Description: brown stained and varnished wood with a tooled handle and head carved from a single block of wood.
Made by Willard Munger of Duluth, Minnesota who served with Rod Searle, the donor in the House of Representatives. The wood for this set came from the Searle farm and is a duplicate of the Minnesota House Gavel. Mr. Searle served as Speaker of The House in 1979.
