Bobby and Pauline Haug. 4" x 2 1/4" black and white photograph of brother and sister, 14-year old Robert Haug and 6-month old Pauline Haug (Fenelon) posing in front of their family barn and farmyard; visible are chickens, granary, tractor, bicycle beside barn; the barn is a gambrel-roof style.
Farmstead, east Otisco township, farmyard, farmhouse. Farm was purchased from Anna Kinder in the 1920s by Norwegian (Hurdal) immigrants Lauritz (L.G.) Haug and his wife, Pauline Pedersdatter Garsjoen; their son Ralph Haug and his wife Helen Johnson (A.D. & Inger Hartz Johnson) farmed from the 1920s to the 1960s; third generation Robert "Bobby" Haug and his wife Lorraine Hagen Haug were the last Haugs to own the farmstead. In 2003, the land is still farmed by a great-grandson of the original Haug owner. At about age 10, Robert Haug broke his leg when he jumped down from the inside roof cupola to land on the hay in the loft only to find that the hay was only a few inches thick. In about 1935, a barn dance was held in this barn's loft to celebrate a family birthday. In preparation for the crowd, a large set of steps were built outside the barn on the north end so that guests could easily walk up to the second story. Live music was provided by the Louie Olson band of Albert Lea.
