Edward and Michael Holmes. 2 3/8" x 3 5/8" hand-tinted tintype photograph of two little boys identified as Edward Eugene Holmes, left, born in 1878; and Michael Holmes, right, born in 1879; also known as Gene Holmes and Mike Holmes; sons of Margaret Maher Holmes and John Holmes, Jr.; Margaret died in Alton Township in 1879 and John Holmes Jr. later married Mary Conway. Gene drowned in the Little Cobb River in Freedom Township on July 3, 1892, is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mike moved to Canada in 1899 after his grandfather died in Janesville.
