The Hartley Elementary School Reading Room was created by the GFWC (General Federation of Women's Clubs) Waseca Monday Study Club to participate in President Clinton's initiative--Libraries 2000--a program to increase reading awareness and improve school libraries across the nation. The women of the Monday Study Club raised over $3,000 to buy furniture and books for a special reading room for elementary school students. The club continues to buy more books every year.
