Bell

Turkey Bell. Material: metal, leather. Size: 1 3/4" diameter x 3 3/4" H. Description: metal bell shape - leather handle looped through top - identified as a "turkey" bell.
Note found 9-27-2007: "This is a turkey bell - given to Gwendolyn Hansen. It belonged to her great-grandmother Hansen. It was put on the turkey's neck so they could tell where the turkeys were. They pioneered to Minnesota and settled on the prairie on a farm about a mile out of the town of Odin, Minnesota. There was no town there at the time. I do not know how much ? A hundred years it is old." Turkey bell given to Gwendolyn Hansen, which belonged to her great grandmother Hansen. Bell is fastened to a leather strap with a buckle. The bell was put around the neck of the turkeys who were leaders of the flocks, so owners could tell where the turkeys were. The Hansens (Gwendolyn's great grandparents) pioneered in Minnesota and settled on a farm on the prairie about a mile out of what is now the town of Odin, MN. (There was no town at that time.) Bell is over one hundred years old.
