Pump Organ. Material: wood, metal, textile, ivory. Size: 49" W. x 26 1/2" deep x 49" H. Description: dark finished wood, two pump pedals, keyboard, ornate legs, red velvet backing shows through ornate front carving.
Organ originally owned by Waseca's first physician, Dr. Gove - physician, surgeon, obstetrician. Office Broadway, next door west, Wilton House Wilton, MN. (Dr. Gove was born in 1829. Doctor Major S. Gove married Rachel D. Dodge December 29, 1861. Dr. Gove passed away December 1, 1874.) Dr. Gove was the first actively practicing physician in Waseca County. More information about Dr. Gove can be found in the History of Medicine in Minnesota Page 672-673 (Journal of Minnesota State Medical Association Vol. 35, June 1952, No. 6) This organ was owned by Waseca’s first physician, Dr. Grove, who opened his office in Wilton in 1858. About 1878, Fred Lundquist, Lars Hokanson's son-in-law, traded a horse for the organ. When the Lundquists passed away, their daughter, Mrs. Carl Swenson, kept the organ until her death. Mrs. August Frisk, another daughter of the Lundquists, donated the organ to the Waseca County Historical Society. Information from Alvin Lewer, daughter of Mrs. August Frisk.
