U. S. Rifle Model 1892 Bayonet 1900. Material: metal, wood. Size: 3 3/8" W. x 16" L. x 7/8" D. Description: steel blade extends from a metal tipped wooden shaft handle slotted at top for attaching to rifle; stamped on blade near hilt: "U.S." stamped on one side, "1900" on other side.
History by Gary Taylor: "Bayonet. U.S. Rifle Model 1892 - Krag - Jorgensen. Mfg - 1900." Produced for trial in 1900, with the idea of having a bayonet which could double as a brush knife. 13 3/4 inches overall, with a 9 inch clip point blade, "US" on the right ricasso, "1900" on the left and a 2 1/2 inch section of sharpened spine near the guard. Smooth wood grips, with polished steel crossguard and pommel.
