G.A.R. Memorial Ribbon. GAR Badge. Material: textile and metal. Size: 3 1/8" W. x 11" L. x 1/2" thick. Description: white and black fabric; vertical rectangular shape tapers to a point at bottom; gold tassel suspended from bottom point of ribbon; gray metal bar attached to top of ribbon, imprinted with raised letters: "G.A.R."; short black ribbon overlay with silver edge below bar imprinted: "Lewis McKune, Post No. 27, Waseca, Minn."; white center area - gold lettering: "In Memoriam" over the GAR logo and a red, white and blue U.S. flag in the center; short black ribbon overlay at bottom edged in silver imprinted: "Honor the Noble Dead".
Waseca County Military - Civil War. Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). Belonged to John Preston Martin of Waseca, donor's grandfather. A bass drum belonging to Martin is also in WCHS collections. Worn by G.A.R. Members at Memorial Day Parades and Funeral Services of fallen comrades.
