World War I Uniform Jacket of Fred Rietfort. Material: textile, metal. Size: 18" W. x 30 1/2" L. Description: olive green wool with brown ribbed cotton jacket lining and striped cotton sleeve lining; high round neckline with stand-up collar closes with two heavy hooks and eyes; front jacket closure from neckline down with black metal shank buttons imprinted with the Army crest and four sets of hooks and eyes; left circular collar dog has raised letters "USNG", right circular collar dog has raised letters "MINN"; one breast pocket on each side, one pocket on each lower front, each pocket closes with a single button flap; shoulder strap epaulets attach with a single button; long sleeves with two khaki chevrons on right sleeve (rank insignia); vertical display of three patches on left sleeve: top round black patch bordered in white (1st Corps), middle red chevron, and at cuff are two brown "V" shaped chevrons (overseas stripes). Victory Medal ribbon bar (#1.98.398) has been removed from the left breast pocket to storage.
Waseca County Military - WW I. A note found in left breast pocket states: "WW I Uniform Fred Rietfort". Private, 1st Class John F. Rietforts entered service on September 17, 1917 arriving in France in July 1918 with the Motor Supply Service. Jacket is part of uniform #1.98.397 and 1.98.398.
