Spanish-American War. Material: textile, metal. Size: 17 1/2" W. across shoulders x 47 3/4" L. with 25" L. sleeves. Description: blue wool - black wool lining above waist - natural cotton sleeve lining - double breasted with two parallel vertical rows of six gold colored metal buttons - six button front closure - each button stamped: "E'Toile Du Nord Minnesota" and the Minnesota state seal - beneath seal: "Henderson Ames Co. Kalamazoo Mich" - top right button missing - seven large metal eyes for cape attachment under collar - one left inside breast pocket - black cross stitching inside left sleeve shoulder: "FA" - unhemmed bottom edge - 20 1/2" L. back vent - gold lettering on black label inside back neckline: "The Henderson Ames Co. Kalamazoo, Mich. Military and Society Goods". Other items in this uniform ensemble include a cape (#1157b), a blouse (#676a) and pants (#676b).
Waseca County Military - Spanish American War. Herman Nigg, the owner of this uniform, enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1898. He was stationed at Chicamunga Park, Tenn., where he served for the duration of the war.
