Brown Wool Cape of Clara Johnson Hatle. Material: textile and metal. (a) Cape. Size: 7 1/2" W. at neckline and 28" W. at hemline x 18 1/2" L. Description: brown wool with a 2 3/4" W. collar lined with gold fabric; front closure with five hooks and eyes and two buttons for a frog (see #58.97.2 b), gold cord trim and gold topstitching around collar, hemline and across lower bodice. (b) Frog. Size: 2 1/2" W. x 6 7/8" L. Description: brown wool trimmed with gold cord and gold topstitching; buttonhole on each end.
Worn by Clara O. Johnson (mother of donor). Clara married Gerhardt O. Hatle in the early 1910s. They had 10 children; Orvin, Clair, Evelyn, Wesley, Herbert, Elaine, Edith, Avis, Rebecca & Ruth.
