Wedding Cape. Material: textile and metal. Size: 16 1/2" W. shoulder to shoulder x 37" L. Description: black taffeta, below hip length cape on sides tapers to slightly longer in back and is edged with a row of black beaded looped cord, a black satin ruffle and an edge of black lace; two long front panels extend below knee length and are trimmed at the hemline with a black ruffle and edged with black lace; narrow stand-up collar trimmed at the base with 1" W. black lace; front closure with three hooks and eyes in an upper bodice placket; back cape design detail: 16" L. black triangular panel extends from neckline to a point mid back; back panel trimmed heavily with beads, loops of black cording, ruffles and black lace; black satin ribbon bow trim at bottom point of triangular panel.
Worn by Mrs. George Wood as part of her wedding clothes. She was married July 4, 1877.
