(a) Bowl. Material: glass. Size: 9 3/8" diameter x 2 3/4" H. Description: clear, pressed glass - ornate designs in sides - bowl flares from base to a wide scalloped edge. (b) Basket. Material: metal. Size: 10 1/8" W. x 10 5/8" H. Description: silver plated metal - short ornate base holds glass bowl - simple silver handle flares out from base over sides of bowl and rises high above bowl as a looped handle - ornate floral filigree design at top center handle - stamped on bottom of frame: "Superior Silver Plate Co. Quadruple 811". Handle broken and repaired at bottom.
From the Heinrich Bierman family collection. Was a wedding gift to Elizabeth and Adolph Herbst in 1897. Metal basket repaired 12/23/89. Bierman Collection: Bernie Bierman was a football coach at the University of Minnesota for the Golden Gophers. Bernie Bierman was the grandson of a Waseca County pioneer, Heinrich F. Bierman. In 1855, Heinrich made a claim in sections 13, in Wilton and 18 in Otisco where he lived until December 22, 1882, when he was accidentally killed by a fall from a wagon. His wife and five children lived in Waseca after his death. Luella and Marguerite Herbst are the granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Bierman, and the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Herbst. Mrs. Herbst was Elizabeth Bierman. They also donated items from Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Perrin. Mrs. Perrin was Emma Bierman.
