Black Taffeta Jacket. Material: textile. Size: 14" W. x 28" L. Description: black taffeta, long sleeves, 4 3/4" W. cuffs; 2" W. belt closes at front waistline with two buttons; cream colored cotton lining with floral pattern of blue, green, pink and yellow; four large black plastic front buttons; (b) Black Taffeta Skirt. Material: textile and metal. Size: 13" W. at waistline x 38 1/2" L. Description: black taffeta, floor length, pleated at waistline, skirt flares to wide hemline; black cotton inner waistband, 6 short stays sewn into lining around waist; side closure with hooks and eyes; waistline tabs with hooks and eyes provide further closure and adjustment.
Worn by Mrs. Elizabeth Bierman Herbst. Bierman Collection: Bernie Bierman was a football coach at the University of Minnesota for the Golden Gophers. Bernie Bierman was the grandson of a Waseca County pioneer, Heinrich F. Bierman. In 1855, Heinrich made a claim in sections 13, in Wilton and 18 in Otisco where he lived until December 22, 1882, when he was accidentally killed by a fall from a wagon. His wife and five children lived in Waseca after his death. Luella and Marguerite Herbst are the granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Bierman, and the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Herbst. Mrs. Herbst was Elizabeth Bierman. They also donated items from Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Perrin. Mrs. Perrin was Emma Bierman. Goes with 1789 Skirt.
