Johnston Ice Tongs. Material: metal. Size: closed, 5 1/2" W. x 23" L. Description: iron handles on one end; tongs on other end; used to lift ice blocks from frozen lake.
Ice tongs used by the Johnston Ice House Company to remove blocks of ice from Clear Lake, Waseca. Owner, Jerome (Jerry) C. Johnston was a great uncle to donor. After the ice business declined, Jerome went into the real estate business. Jerome gave the ice tongs to his brother-inlaw, Alfred G. Wetzstein who passed them on to his grandson, David Wetzstein. (Jerome (Jerry) C. Johnston brother in-law to Alfred G. Wetzstein (sister Esther was Mrs. J. Johnston).
