Original Waseca County Courthouse. 3" x 2 1/2". The original Waseca County Courthouse; this courthouse building was on the site of the present courthouse; visible in the background is the Sheriff's residence / Sheriff's Office and jail, Waseca County Jail; the converted house that stood west of the Waseca County Courthouse; the former jail house was torn down in 1971; also in background is the EACO Mill smoke stack; the legislature of 1870 authorized the village of Waseca to issue $5,000 in bonds for the building of this courthouse upon removal of the county seat to Waseca. The bonds were voted in March and the building above was completed in the fall of 1870. The brick building was 40 x 50 feet in size; there were four offices on the first floor and a courtroom on the second floor. The new courthouse was dedicated on September 23, 1897.
