PLACEHOLDER Material: wood, metal Size: 1 1/4" W. x 36 1/2" L. x 3" D. Description: metal rod - brown painted wooden hooked handle on one end - metal cuff holds two soldered metal tubes to the handle, one shorter rod curving away away from the other that held a wick - second straight rod threaded at end.
Used on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for two purposes. One end was used to light the gas lamps in the trains. It had a wax wick. The other end was used to close the window transoms. Possible identification: Pullman porter's hook. Glen Bell was a brakeman and conductor on the Chicago & North Western for 33 years. He retired 17 December 1979. Among the runs which he worked on was the last run of the "400", the last passenger train in Waseca, on July 23, 1963.
