Bates and Bacon started in 1900. Manufactured chains, pencils, knives jewelry and bracelet fobs. They were the successors to G.A. Dean Company and succeeded by Briggs, Bates and Bacon. Bierman Collection: Bernie Bierman, grandson of Waseca pioneer Heinrich F. Bierman was a football coach at the University of Minnesota for the Golden Gophers. In 1855, Heinrich made a claim in Wilton Township, sections 13, and in Otisco Township, section 18 where he lived until December 22, 1882, when he was accidentally killed by a fall from a wagon. His wife and five children lived in Waseca after his death. Donors, Luella and Marguerite Herbst are the granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Bierman, and the daughters of Adolph and Elizabeth Bierman Herbst. The Herbst sisters also donated items from D. E. and Emma Bierman Perrin.
