Wooden Commode Cabinet. Material: wood, metal. Size: 29 1/2" W. x 17" D. x 30 1/2" H. Description: brown stained finished black walnut; wide top drawer above two smaller stacked drawers on left side; compartment with hinged door on right side; gray metal ornately patterned pull handles on drawers; wooden knob on compartment door; 7" H. splash board across back; wooden casters on base.
A bowl and pitcher of water were placed on commode. Towels were hung on the rack at back. The space at lower right held the chamber pot during the daytime. All articles #4500 thru #4605 were donated and shipped freight paid by the sisters from Pasadena, California. Explanatory notes will be found with the specific items.Bierman Collection: Bernie Bierman was a football coach at the University of Minnesota for the Golden Gophers. Bernie Bierman was the grandson of a Waseca County pioneer, Heinrich F. Bierman. In 1855, Heinrich made a claim in sections 13, in Wilton and 18 in Otisco where he lived until December 22, 1882, when he was accidentally killed by a fall from a wagon. His wife and five children lived in Waseca after his death. Luella and Marguerite Herbst are the granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Bierman, and the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Herbst. Mrs. Herbst was Elizabeth Bierman. They also donated items from Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Perrin. Mrs. Perrin was Emma Bierman.
